About the event
Insects are small and often overlooked, yet the work they do is essential to life on this planet. Pollinators play a critical role in the reproduction of many plants, including a large portion of the fruits and vegetables we rely on. Without them, both plant diversity and food production would decline significantly.
Here in Durango, our high-desert climate, short growing season, and fluctuating temperatures make this relationship even more important. When pollinators are active and supported, they help ensure better fruit set, higher yields, and more resilient plants, especially in vegetable gardens.
In the garden, it’s easy to focus on plants alone, but insects are active partners in the process. A thriving pollinator population is also a sign of a healthy, living landscape where soil microorganisms, plants, and insects are all working together. When we support one part of this system, we strengthen the whole.
